When people think of Mellori Solutions, they often think of our Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) sensor performance assurance systems, such as our Blue Jay product range. Less visible, but equally important, is the work our Adelaide-based Testing & Training team performs every day.
Supporting Capability Across the Lifecycle
Effective Defence capability relies on more than the acquisition of advanced technology. It requires ongoing support, validation, training and maintenance to ensure systems continue to perform as intended throughout their operational life.
Our South Australia team is based in Mawson Lakes and provides technical support across a diverse suite of more than 40 mission-critical systems used by the Australian Defence Force for EW validation activities, realistic training scenarios, advanced emitter simulation and pre-deployment mission data checks.
Their day-to-day responsibilities span
- technical investigations,
- fault finding,
- system upgrades,
- scheduled
- servicing,
- calibration programs,
- asset management,
- configuration control
- and technical documentation updates.
Together, these activities help ensure systems remain safe, compliant and ready when required.
This support extends across multiple locations and operational environments, requiring close collaboration with Defence stakeholders, industry partners and other Mellori teams throughout Australia.
From Workshop to Field
The team’s work extends well beyond the office and workshop environment.
Team members regularly deploy interstate and offshore in support of Defence units, training ranges and operational activities, providing technical support and training assistance.
Whether supporting training exercises, technical investigations or capability assurance activities, the focus remains the same: ensuring Defence personnel have access to safe, reliable and calibrated threat simulation and training capability at the point of need.
The team also supports Commonwealth asset governance and logistics compliance across EW laboratories and deployed systems, helping maintain visibility, accountability and readiness throughout the capability lifecycle.
This practical, hands-on experience provides valuable insight into how systems are used in practice, informing continuous improvements to supportability, sustainment and training outcomes.
Building Skills and Knowledge
Training is another important part of the team’s contribution.
Our Mawson Lakes team supports the delivery and continuous improvement of Defence EW training courses, helping to modernise training materials, refine course content and build future internal training capability.
Working closely with Defence stakeholders, the team helps ensure personnel develop the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively operate and support complex systems.
Supporting EW Test & Evaluation
The team supports advanced simulation-based capabilities within laboratory environments, enabling controlled test and evaluation activities.
These systems support test and evaluation activities, including EW library validation and the generation of complex emitter scenarios within a controlled environment.
By reproducing representative threat conditions, the capability helps Defence organisations assess system performance, improve operational confidence and support readiness before deployment.
Continuous Improvement
As technologies and operational requirements evolve, so too must the processes that support them.
Mellori’s Adelaide team is actively involved in initiatives focused on improving efficiency, strengthening quality assurance processes, enhancing maintenance planning and reducing long-term sustainment risk. These activities help ensure support services remain effective and aligned with future requirements.
People Behind the Capability
At the centre of it all is a team of dedicated professionals committed to supporting Defence capability.
While much of their work takes place out of the spotlight, it plays an important role in ensuring Defence personnel have access to trusted, reliable capability. From training support and engineering services through to technical assurance and continuous improvement, our teams help keep capability ready when it matters most.
